"All this trouble over a fat little man in a red suit!" - Voldar
Ah, the holidays. Don’t you just love it when the holiday decorations come up just a day or two after Halloween? It’s a happy, magical time of toy catalogs and shrink-wrapped fruitcakes, fifty-cent tinsel and 2-day blowout sales, automated caroling penguin figurines and glow in the dark plastic Nativity sets on your neighbors lawn…but then what horrific display of holiday tackiness would be complete without this utter gem of a Christmas movie, “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians”?
This is by far the goofiest, kitschiest, most what-the-hellish holiday movie I have seen (and that’s even INCLUDING the Pee-Wee Herman Holiday Special, which is saying a lot). Still, it’s insanely entertaining, for all it’s wrongness. It also has the distinct pleasure of being the first film to star a very young Pia Zadora, although you’d barely recognize her in her Martian kid makeup.

From Wikipedia:
Constable Ichabod Crane is a fictional character from the movie Sleepy Hollow, played by Johnny Depp. He is a New York police officer with an interest in science, sent to Sleepy Hollow to investigate a string of grisly murders. His horse is named Gunpowder. Ichabod's most notable traits in the movie include an ahead-of-his-time liking for post-mortem examinations and scientific methods. It is Ichabod who finally banishes the Hessian Headless Horseman (Christopher Walken) back to Hell, and sends Lady van Tassel (Miranda Richardson), the woman who has been controlling the undead rider, with him. Katrina Van Tassel (Christina Ricci) is seen at the end of the movie going back to New York with Ichabod along with a boy who helped Ichabod in the investigation.

“I kick a** for the LORD!”-Father McGruder
Directed by Peter Jackson
Written by Peter Jackson, Frances Walsh & Stephen Sinclair
A.K.A. “Braindead”
Ok, I know I’m probably going to offend a whole country or something when I say this, but seriously - what…The HELL…is wrong…with New Zealand???? I mean, here I am thinking it’s this green, peaceful little country with friendly folks and hobbits and crap, but then I see “Black Sheep”, and JUST when I think “Man, could this get any more disgusting?” I get a good, long, stomach-churning look at the 1992 horror film, “Dead Alive”.
This is the bloodiest, most gore-filled horror movie ever made. I kid you not, folks – the final scene alone used over 300 liters of fake blood, pumped out at five gallons per SECOND during the infamous “lawnmower” scene. When it first came out on rental, some countries actually gave out free vomit bags with the video. If that had happened at MY video store, I would’ve thought it was a joke, for publicity. Yet, despite the fact that I’ve watched countless horror films in the past, and have seldom EVER been grossed out to the point of nausea in any given film, this one took me four tries to finish. |

The gorgeous Tricia Helfer was on hand this last week for the Spike Tv awards as well. Best known as Number 6 (is that a Prisoner reference, I wonder?) on Battlestar Galactica, she also hosts Canada's Next Top Model. The only question is: how did she manage to breathe in that dress?!?
From Wikipedia:
Tricia Helfer (born April 11, 1974), is a Canadian supermodel and actress best known for her major role as Number Six in the Battlestar Galactica re-imagined series.
