If you’re looking for a fun movie to take the family to for the Christmas break, look no further then Alvin and The Chipmunks. For those who may not know, the Chipmunks were created in 1958 by Ross Bagdasarian and were an instant sensation. Now almost 50 years later the Chipmunks have been revamped for the current generation. In addition to Alvin, Simon, and Theodore - the three Chipmunks, is Dave Seville the human who befriends and begins their musical career, played in the movie by Jason Lee.

I had some worries when I sat down with my family to watch the movie that this would be a corny badly written and acted movie attempting to be hip and fresh. I was pleasantly surprised that the movie was well made. The plot is quite simple which was nice and makes the movie flow quickly. The hour and a half seemed to fly by and the movie was over, leaving me a bit disappointed and wanting more.

I thought the acting was good and the voice acting top notch as well. At times the animation seemed to be lacking somewhat, but nothing terrible. There’s a minor romantic interest, but thankfully that’s not the main thrust of the movie. I found myself laughing quite often at the funny antics the Chipmunks get into - after the first 10 minutes or so of the movie you forget that they’re animated animals.

I give Alvin and The Chipmunks my highest rating for a fun and funny movie that’s appropriate for all ages, and keeps you entertained.
